The National Football League's best team showed precisely why it is the league's best team Sunday at Dolphin Stadium, and unfortunately it came at the expense of the Miami Dolphins. Behind an unstoppable offense, the New England Patriots rolled to a 49-28 victory to remain perfect on the season at 7-0, and quarterback Tom Brady continued his assault on the record books with six touchdown passes, five of them in the first half. Not only did Brady set a franchise record but it also was the most touchdown passes thrown by an opposing quarterback against the Dolphins. In efforts to upgrade their defensive line, the Miami Dolphins on Thursday signed Anthony off Baltimore’s practice squad. Bryant’s signing is the Dolphins’ latest signing to beef up the league’s second-worst rushing defense in the NFL, allowing 168 yards per game. He was immediately placed on the Dolphin’s active roster for this week’s game against New England. A former standout at the University of Alabama, Anthony has spent the past three seasons with five teams. Before spending the last six weeks on the Ravens practice squad, Bryant, who is 6-foot-3, 337-pounds, spent one season with Tampa Bay, which selected him in the sixth-round of the 2005 draft. He played for Detroit in 2006, starting three games. He started out this year with the Falcons, which released him before training camp, allowing him to sign with Baltimore.
Bryant has 11 tackles in eight career NFL games. |

Gaines New Nickname  Anthony Bryant is a third-year defensive tackle competing with Dwan Edwards and Atiyyah Ellison for a spot. Bryant, who spent last season with the Detroit Lions and the 2005 season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, has earned the nickname "Calves" from his teammates for his enormous calves, which measure 20 inches in circumference.
But Bryant’s first nickname was "Bear," which was given to him by a childhood friend Stanley Davis because of Bryant’s girth as a teenager in Newbern, Ala. Tragically, Davis drowned in a lake during a family picnic during Bryant’s senior year in high school. "He was my main motivator," Bryant said of Davis. "It hurt for a long time, almost every day.
