One day after the completion of the club's mandatory minicamp in Flowery Branch, the Falcons reduced their roster by six as they waived S Allyn Bacchus, DT Anthony Bryant, P Gordon Ely-Kelso, C Brian Ferentz, CB Derrick Johnson and OL Jason Palermo.

Bacchus (6-0, 205 pounds) was signed last week as a rookie free agent by the Falcons. He was a two-time All-Atlantic 10 safety at Villanova, totaling 374 career tackles in 44 starts, including a team leading 103 stops in 2006.

Bryant (6-3, 337 pounds) is a two-year veteran who played in four games with the Detroit Lions last season. Prior to his tenure in Detroit, he spent the first year of his career with Tampa Bay.

Ely-Kelso (6-2, 215 pounds) was signed last week as a rookie free agent by Atlanta. He averaged 39.6 yards per punt while dropping 13 punts inside the 20 yard line for Georgia in 2006. He also kicked one field goal and four extra points for a total of seven points scored as a senior.

Ferentz (6-3, 282 pounds) spent the entire 2006 season on the Falcons practice squad after being signed as a rookie free agent on May 1, 2006.

Johnson (5-10, 186 pounds) was a sixth-round draft pick by the San Francisco 49ers in the 2005. Last season, he competed in three games for the Houston Texans and recorded one tackle.

Palermo (6-3, 307) signed as a rookie free agent by Minnesota last season and was released following the Vikings training camp.

It's Official: Anthony's a Falcon

In less than 24 hours after being released by Detroit on Thursday, the Atlanta Falcons waisted no time in claiming Anthony off waivers and rushed him to team headquarters on Sunday for meetings. His deal with the Falcons was finalized after passing a physical on Monday.

Bryant spent the latter part of the 2006 season in Detroit after the Lions claimed him off the Tampa Bay practice squad. In four games with Detroit he logged four tackles and a fumble recovery. In his rookie season of 2005 with Tampa he saw action in four games and registered three tackles.

Anthony will hit the field with his new team at mini-camps in May.

Bryant makes third career start

Anthony mades his third career start on Sunday in Detroit's 39-31 win over the Dallas Cowboys. Signed off the Tampa practice squad after Thanksgiving, Bryant made a sudden impact for the Lion's run defense. In just his first NFL start at Green Bay on December 17, Bryant racked up 4 tackles and a fumble recovery. He followed that performance with a two tackle showing against Chicago a week later and added another stop in Sunday's game. In only 4 games of action, Bryant has a career high 8 tackles on the season.

QB Jon Kitna and the receiving duo of Roy Williams and Mike Furrey helped the Lions defeat Dallas. In addition, the Detroit defense forced two fumbles, one interception and three sacks.
