Bear logs 4 tackles, fumble recovery in first NFL career start

Marinelli has made it a point not to beat around the bush with excuses and continues to cite problems the Lions have had that have left them struggling to earn victories.

The Lions entered Green Bay on Sunday short numerous players who are out due to injury. To name a few: running back Kevin Jones, guard Ross Verba, cornerback Fernando Bryant and defensive tackle Marcus Bell. But Marinelli has said all season that there is no such thing as a back-up player and he planned on taking a win from the Packers despite the line-up changes.

The game wasn't a high-scoring affair and both teams traded three-and-outs at the outset of the first half. But Detroit's offense looked good with running back Arlen Harris and rookie guard Frank Davis getting starting nods. They began their second drive on their own 46 and it turned into a 42-yard field goal for veteran kicker Jason Hanson.

The Lions looked like they could create some distance between themselves and the Packers on the following drive after a botched snap allowed rookie defensive tackle Anthony Bryant to pick up his first-career fumble recovery on the Green Bay 36-yard line.

Anthony logs a tackle in first game as Lion

Anthony Bryant, Detroit LionsIn just his first game since becoming a member of the Detroit Lions on November 30th, defensive tackle Anthony Bryant logged one tackle in limited action as the Lions fell to the Vikings 20-30.

The Lions got off to a slow start, falling into an early 10-point hole to start the game. The Lions went back-and-forth with the Vikings until they were on the Minnesota 1-yard line with under four minutes to play and an opportunity to close the gap to three. But with Minnesota up 30-20, the Lions turned the ball over on downs and ultimately fell to the Vikings. Bryant and the Lions travel to Green Bay next Sunday.

All the sweat and hard work put into efforts as a member of the Buccaneers' practice squad finally paid off for Anthony Bryant on Thursday. Seeing their depth chart of defensive lineman drawing thin, the Detroit Lions signed Bryant making him available for action on Sunday when the Lions host New England.

Anthony is in his second season in the NFL. He was a fifth round draft choice of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the 2005 NFL Draft. Bryant played collegiately at the University of Alabama where he picked up the nickname "Bear."
