Massive athlete with incredible strength looking to build on rookie season in which he saw limited action at defensive tackle. Appeared in four games in rookie campaign, recording two tackles. Made NFL debut in 2005 season opener at Minnesota (9/11). Recorded first career tackle at Green Bay (9/25/05). Massive athlete with incredible strength… Holds the school records with a 505-pound bench press and 775-pound squat, and also set a team incline bench record in 2001 with a 415-pound lift… Played in 48 games with 15 starts… Finished his career with 115 tackles (40 solos), 1.5 sacks, one fumble recovery, one forced fumble and two passes defensed… Majored in criminal justice. | 2004 By making the required academic progress toward his degree, Anthony earned back his fourth season of competition. He is the Tide's most experienced returning defensive lineman, starting all 13 games last year.
2003 (Senior): A 13-game starter, Anthony had 44 tackles, 12 quarterback pressures and 1.5 stops behind the line. He played a total of 651 snaps and had his best game of the season against Ole Miss with five tackles. He also had two pass breakups. Bryant was in on a half stop behind the line against Tennessee and one against Auburn and also recorded a safety against the Tigers.
2002 (Junior): Playing in all 13 games, Anthony earned a start in the season finale against Hawaii. He had 333 snaps on the season and finished with 32 tackles, including two stops behind the line for three yards. He also had four quarterback pressures, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery. He had a career-high five tackles against Georgia and forced a fumble against Hawaii. Anthony was recipient of the "Billy Neighbors Most Improved Defensive Lineman" award following spring drills. During Night of Champions activity on April 30, he set the defensive line and school record when he handled 755 pounds in the squat.
2001 (Sophomore): Playing in every game, Anthony had 180 defensive snaps. He saw action on 29 plays against Arkansas, 27 against LSU and 26 in the Vanderbilt game and finished with 20 tackles and one quarterback pressure. Anthony set the school defensive line record this spring in the incline bench press with a lift of 415 pounds.
2000 (Freshman): Did not see varsity action.
Prep: A first-team USA Today and Parade All-America pick, Anthony had 178 tackles and 11 sacks as a senior. He also caused eight fumbles, recovered four and made two interceptions. As a tight end on offense, he caught 15 passes for 441 yards and eight TDs. Anthony also averaged 19.0 points and 12 rebounds a game while playing basketball. Anthony was named a Parade All-America. He was a SuperPrep All-America and Top 100 Dream Team selection, a Border Wars first-team All-South pick and was a first-team all-state selection. He was SuperPrep1s No. 18 defensive lineman in the nation. Anthony was a 1A all-state pick and 3Lineman of the Year.² Anthony was the number one pick on the Birmingham News 3Super Senior² list and was a No. 1 pick on the Tuscaloosa News1 Sweet Sixteen list. As a junior, Anthony threw the shot put 55-3 to win the 1A state title in that event. He was also an excellent basketball player as a sophomore, earning MVP honors in numerous tournaments.
Personal: The son of Ernest and Marie Bryant, Anthony is also the cousin of former Tide player Sam Shade. Born 11-6-81. He is aHuman Environmental Sciences major. |
